Scheduled Kaua‘i lane closures for March 22-28
Hawai’i Department of Transportation announces the following lane closures and road work projects for the week of March 22-28.
There will be no contraflow set up and no lane closures, unless otherwise permitted, Wednesday, March 26, in observance of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Day.

KAUMUALI‘I HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 50)
KĪPŪ TO KŌLOA
- SHOULDER CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 2.9 and 5.2, in the vicinity of Kīpū Road and Halfway Bridge, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for paving work.
KŌLOA
- ROVING SHOULDER CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 4.5 and 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 24-25 for grass cutting.
KEKAHA (24/7 CLOSURE)
- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile postS 24.37 and 24.46, in the vicinity of Kikiaola Boat Harbor, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for replacement of culverts. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane. Details: Click here.
KEKAHA
- SHOULDER CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 25 and 25.3, in the vicinity of Manu Road and ʻĀkuʻu Road on, Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for installation of raised pavement markers.
KŪHIŌ HIGHWAY (HIGHWAYS 56/560)
LĪHU‘E (NIGHT WORK)
- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 3 and 5, in the vicinity of Kaua‘i Beach Drive and Leho Drive, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for grass cutting.
KAPA‘A TO KEĀLIA (NIGHT WORK/WEEKEND WORK)
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 8.1 and 9.7, in the vicinity of ‘Akia Road and Mailihuna Road, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. March 23-28 for resurfacing, concrete and electrical work. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
KĪLAUEA TO KĀLIHIWAI (NIGHT WORK)
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile postS 23.1 and 23.8, in the vicinity of Kuawa Road and Kālihiwai Road, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. March 24-28 for a speed table.
KĀLIHIWAI (NIGHT WORK)
- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile postS 24 and 25, in the vicinity of Kālihiwai Road, from 1 to 6:30 a.m. March 24-28 for drain cleaning.
KĀLIHIWAI TO PRINCEVILLE
- SHOULDER CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 24.4 and 28.1, in the vicinity of Kalihiholo Road and ‘Emmalani Drive, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for sign and marker replacement.
PRINCEVILLE TO HANALEI
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0.3 to 1.2, in the vicinity of Hanalei Plantation Road and ‘Ohiki Road, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24-28 for drain line installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
PRINCEVILLE TO HANALEI
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile postS 0.3 and 1.2, in the vicinity of Hanalei Plantation Road and ‘Ohiki Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24-28 for installation of wire mesh on the Hanalei hillside.
HANALEI
- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE in the westbound direction between mile posts 2.9 and 3.3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for sidewalk installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
HANALEI TO WAIKOKO (NIGHT WORK)
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 3.3 and 4.3, in the vicinity of Kumu Road, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for paving. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
HANALEI TO H‘ENA
- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 4 and 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for grass cutting and tree trimming.
WAIKOKO (24/7 CLOSURE)
SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 4.3 and 4.5, in the vicinity of Waikoko Bridge and Lumaha‘i Trailhead, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for slope stabilization of Waikoko Hillside. - SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 8 and 9 until 12:30 p.m. March 22 for tree trimming.
KŌKE‘E
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 11.5 and 14 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24-25 and 27-28 for shoulder stabilization, guardrail repairs and striping. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
MA‘ALO ROAD (HIGHWAY 583)

- RIGHT LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 2 and 3 until 2:30 p.m. March 22-23 for grass cutting.
