Multiple agencies search for missing swimmer in waters off ‘Anini on Kaua‘i

Multiple agencies are actively searching for a missing swimmer in waters off ‘Anini Beach on Sunday, county of Kaua‘i personnel reported Sunday evening.

A 59-year-old male visitor from Arizona was reported missing, according to a preliminary report, at approximately 12:15 p.m. after he was last seen snorkeling near the back channel of ‘Anini Beach on the North Shore of the island.

First responders were dispatched to the scene and initiated an air, sea and shoreline search.

Firefighters with the Hanalei fire station, Rescue 3, Air 1, the Ocean Safety Bureau and the on-duty battalion chief are responding to this incident.

Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Kaua‘i Police Department are assisting with the search efforts and volunteers from Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, are assisting the man’s family.
