100 Kaua‘i recipients awarded reimbursement to upgrade existing cesspools
The County of Kaua‘i Housing Agency this week announced recipients of its Residential Cesspool Conversion Grant Program.
Out of approximately 375 applications submitted, 100 were found eligible to receive the $20,000 grant reimbursement to upgrade existing cesspools to individual wastewater systems approved by the Hawai‘i State Department of Health-Wastewater Branch. A grant agreement must be signed to finalize the award.
According to a county press release issued Wednesday, all recipients have been emailed directly and must acknowledge and confirm their interest by Nov. 4 to receive the grant.
Additionally, Housing Agency officials emailed all applicants who did not receive the award and were placed on the program’s waitlist. According to the release, being placed on the waitlist indicates that the applicant will remain under consideration for potential funding if any of the initial 100 awardees do not accept the available funding.
The county’s Housing Agency reminds recipients it will not ask for personal or financial information via phone or email. Those unsure of the validity of a notice they may have received are advised to contact the Housing Agency directly at 808-241-4444.
Funding for this program is provided by the Hawai‘i State – DOH Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund.
