Update: Flood Advisory for eastern Kaua‘i canceled

Updated 10:30 a.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled the Flood Advisory for Kauaʻi. Radar shows the heavy rain has diminished, with flooding no longer expected to pose a threat.

Original post: A flood advisory for eastern poritions of Kaua‘i continues until 11:30 a.m. today as excessive rainfall continues over the area.

National Weather Service radar indicated persistent moderate to locally heavy rains at 8:19 a.m. over portions of windward Kauai, mainly from Nāwiliwili to Kapaʻa, falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Līhuʻe, Kapaʻa, Wailua, Hanamāʻulu and Keālia.

Minor flooding can be expected on roads as well as in poor drainage areas and streams. River or stream flows are also elevated. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or imminent.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
