Campaign season is well underway, and political signs can be seen in abundance depending where you look.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation reminds everyone that posting signs along state highways that do not fall under the exempted categories defined by state law unlawful.

That includes, but is not limited to, on overpasses, fencing, signposts and poles.

To report an illegally placed sign on the Kauaʻi, contact the Highways Maintenance Hotline at 808-241-3000 and follow the voice prompts.

Illegally placed signs will be removed.

Sign owners can also contact the Highway Maintenance Hotline to check if their signs are available for pick up; however, the Transporation Department generally disposes of unclaimed signs after 15 calendar days.

Campaign supporters are also encouraged to be mindful of safety as they sign wave in areas near busy highways.

Sign-wavers also should use caution when exiting and re-entering traffic and not park in prohibited areas.
