Oct. 6 update: Ocean Safety Bureau officials have not observed sharks in the area on Sunday and have pulled warning signs at Hā‘ena Beach Park. Swimming and other recreational water activities have resumed.

Original post: On Saturday afternoon, Ocean Safety Bureau officials said people should not swim at Hā‘ena Beach Park on Kauaʻi until further notice due to a shark sighting.

Ocean Safety received a report about a sighting of a possible 8- to 10-foot shark about 50 feet from shore, according to a Kauaʻi County news release.

As a safety precaution, lifeguards have posted warning signs and are monitoring the area. They will reassess the situation on Sunday.
