10 a.m. Thursday update: Hunting Unit L has reopened as of today. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife closed the area on July 23 for wildfire suppression efforts.

Original post: As a precaution due to ongoing wildfire suppression efforts on Koke‘e, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife has closed Hunting Unit L until further notice.

The division will monitor developments and provide updates on hunting access as more information from the Kauaʻi Fire Department and other official sources becomes available.

The Koke‘e brush fire scorched approximately 1,600 acres. As of Monday, it was 85% contained and emergency assets were demobilized. The Division of Forestry and Wildlife remains on scene conducting final mop-up efforts.
