KFD Rescue Hiker off Kalalau Trail

Kaua‘i Firefighters rescued a 25-year-old hiker off the Kalalau Trail Thursday afternoon.

KPD received a call at approximately 12:40 p.m. regarding an injured hiker near Hanakoa Valley. The report indicated she was suffering from possible heat exhaustion.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the female resident and her hiking party. After contacting and assessing the hiker, first responders determined that she could walk to the helicopter’s landing zone with the assistance of the rescue crew.

The hiker was airlifted and later dropped off at Princeville Airport to awaiting medical personal and firefighters from the Hanalei fire station. The scene was cleared at approximately 2:40 p.m.
