Portion of Olohena Road in Wailua to close Monday under modified hours

A portion of Olohena Road in Wailua on the East Side of Kaua‘i – from Kamalu Road to Waipouli Road – will be closed on March 11 with modified hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting, County of Kaua‘i officials have announced.

The new hours differ from those initially announced by the Department of Public Works and Earthworks Pacific earlier this month.

The road closure is necessary for the bridge replacement at Konohiki Stream.

Motorists must use alternate routes for school drop-off and pick-up throughout the day.

The detour routes are as follows:

• Eastbound traffic on Olohena Road will be routed onto Waipouli Road from Kamalu Road via Olohena Road;
• Westbound traffic will be routed onto Waipouli Road via Hauiki Road, and onto Kamalu Road via Olohena Road; and
• Local traffic will be permitted, but cannot cross the bridge at Konohiki Stream from either direction.

Electronic message boards will also be installed.
