Update: High wind warning canceled on Kaua‘i

11:56 p.m. Jan. 16 update: Winds have diminished, therefore the high wind warning has been
canceled.

5:39 p.m. Jan. 16 update: A high wind warning for interior and windward Kaua‘i is in effect until midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, southwest winds of 25 to 30 mph are expected with localized gusts of 60 mph.

High winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Original post: A high wind warning was issued for Kaua‘i through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, southwest winds of 25 to 30 mph with localized gusts to 60 mph are expected for portions of interior and windward Kaua‘i.

Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for lightweight and high-profile vehicles.

Loose outdoor items should be brought inside or secured properly. The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.
