Henry Kapono celebrates 50 years of music with Kauaʻi performance Sept. 9

Legendary Hawaiian musician Henry Kapono will commemorate 50 years of his career and the iconic songs of C&K through a series of concerts in Hawai‘i and the U.S. mainland. 

Cecilio & Kapono, aka “C&K,” emerged in the early 1970s as a prominent force in the Hawaiian music scene. As one of the most successful musical acts in Hawai‘i’s history, their distinctive blend of folk, rock and island rhythms became the soundtrack of growing up in Hawai‘i for generations to come.

Kapono’s 50th anniversary tour will begin with an eight-city U.S. solo tour in July, followed by a series of concerts in the Hawaiian Islands. Kapono will perform on Kauaʻi on Sept. 9 at Anaina Hou Community Park.

The Hawaiian Islands concerts will include Kapono’s all-star band fronted by Gaylord Holomalia, Alx Kawakami and Johnny Valentine. 

Kaua’i concert:

• Sept. 9 at Porter Pavilion Complex (on sale soon). Anaina Hou Community Park, 5-2723 Kuhio Highway in Kīlauea

Big Island concert:

• Sept. 16 at Kahilu Theatre (on sale soon), 67-1186 Lindsey Road in Waimea

O’ahu concerts:

• Aug. 26 Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell, Waikīkī
• Aug. 27 Official After Party at Duke’s on Sunday, Waikīkī (Free)

• July 8 Coach House Concert Hall, San Juan Capistrano, CA
• July 11 SOhO Restaurant & Music Venue, Santa Barbara, CA

There is a lineup of special guests to join Kapono on August 26 at the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell, including, Jerry Santos, Brother Noland, John Cruz, including a special reunion  performance of “The Rough Riders” (Henry Kapono, John Cruz and Brother Noland), Na Leo, Robi Kahakalau, Kimié Miner, Tavana and the introduction of the Henry Kapono Foundations, “On The Rise” spotlight artist, Ryan Perez. 

The event will be hosted by Billy V, who will also be joined by notable celebrities for special appearances and shout-outs. Tickets are available at TicketMaster.com and include VIP Packages offering “Best Seats” with exclusive entry, seating, restrooms, and a no-host bar.

The Henry Kapono Foundation will receive $1 per ticket sold and a portion of the net proceeds from the Waikīkī Shell concert. Founded in 2018, the The Henry Kapono Foundation supports the music industry in Hawai‘i. This initiative reflects Kapono’s dedication to giving back to his community and fostering the growth of the local music scene.
