At about 2:40 p.m. on Monday, a 911 call came in for a swimmer in distress at Kaua’i’s Kauapea
Beach, also known as Secret Beach, on Kaua’i’s north shore, according to radio communications.
The male surfer was brought to the beach.
Around 3 p.m., rescue crews from Hanalei and Līhuʻe were hiking down the steep, half-mile trail to the surfer to assess his condition. Air 1 was placed on standby, but was not needed.
After treatment at the beach, the surfer did not want to be transported to the hospital.
