Kauaʻi firefighters put out a small brush fire Friday night that broke out in Koke‘e.

The fire was reported near mile marker 4 along Waimea Canyon Drive. Firefighters from the Waimea and Hanapēpē stations were dispatched shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found approximately 50 feet by 50 feet of brush and trees on fire and slowly spreading.

Access to the fire was difficult due to being surrounded by a small reservoir. After finding an area to cross the irrigation ditch, Waimea firefighters from Engine 7 attacked the north side of the blaze and was able to quickly contain the fire spread.

Waimea firefighters from Truck 7 worked the south end of the fire and extinguished the brush and trees that were burning. Hanapēpē fire personnel also assisted in efforts to fully extinguish the blaze.
