Update: High Surf Advisory Cancelled
Update: A high surf advisory for all south-facing shores of Kauai has been cancelled, the National Weather Service reported Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier Version:
The Southern Hemisphere swell generated towering waves over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the swell peaked on Sunday and has been slowly easing since, but remains large to enough support advisory-level surf for south-facing shores today.
According to the NWS, heights should ease below the advisory level tonight through Wednesday as the swell moves out.
Surf is expected to be 8 to 12 feet, lowering to 7 to 10 feet this afternoon. The advisory is till 6 p.m.
Impacts are expected to be moderate with strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
