A high surf advisory has been issued for south-facing shores till 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a long-period south swell will build today, peak tonight and gradually diminish. Surf is expected to be 7 to 12 feet.

Impacts are anticipated to be moderate. Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Extreme high tides the next couple of afternoons could lead to salt-water flooding of beaches and low-lying shoreline areas.
