Designs Underway for Temporary Repairs of Yasutake Bridge
Designs are underway for temporary repairs to Yasutake Bridge, located on Kamalu Road north of Wailua Homesteads Park. Consor Engineers, an engineering consultant for the County of Kaua‘i, is working with county officials to design a temporary bridge.
The Yasutake Bridge is estimated to reopen in three months.
The County of Kaua‘i closed the bridge on June 10, 2022, based on concerns over critical scour conditions affecting the foundations of the bridge. On Tuesday, June 14, Consor Engineers conducted dive inspections of Yasutake Bridge and discovered further scouring of the bridge. After their assessment, the engineering consultant recommended that the bridge remain closed until the temporary bridge is in place.
During the bridge closure, motorists may use a detour via Olohena Road, Puʻuʻōpae Road, and ‘Ōpaeka‘a Road. A more detailed timeline is expected in the coming weeks and future updates will be made available to the public.
