The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for portions of Kaua‘i until 6 a.m. Thursday, May 5.

According to the NWS, surf is expected to build to heights of 12-16 feet along north-facing shores and 8-12 feet along west-facing shores.

“Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous,” said the advisory message.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
