Police ID Victim in Fatal Good Friday Crash on Kūhiō Highway

Authorities have identified a woman who was killed in a car crash on Kūhiō Highway on Good Friday.

Fifty-nine-year-old Roxanne Fasanella was a passenger in one of four vehicles involved in the collision that took place on April 15 in Anahola. According to Kauaʻi police, the crash occurred at approximately 12:39 p.m. when the driver, later identified as Thomas Castro, of a white Chevrolet pickup truck, traveling south, struck a blue Chevrolet pickup truck that was in the process of turning left at mile marker 15.

According to KPD, that collision caused the blue pickup to collide with a northbound Ford MPVH. Fasanella was a passenger in the Ford MPVH.

After the initial collision, the blue pickup continued onto the shoulder, striking a parked vehicle, a Chevrolet convertible. After the second collision, Castro proceeded to flee the scene, according to police.

Fasanella was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she later succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash. This was Kauaʿi’s fourth traffic fatality of 2022.

Castro has since turned himself in and is facing charges of second-degree negligent homicide, first-degree negligent injury, second-degree negligent injury, collisions involving death or bodily injury and inattention to driving.
