Lane Closures Scheduled Near King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School
Work to improve pedestrian access to King Kaumualiʻi Elementary School will require a change in traffic pattern beginning next week.
The county Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC. announced in a news release that sections of ‘Akuli Street and Hanamāʻulu Road will be under short lane closures weekdays from Feb. 22-March 4, weather permitting.
Work is scheduled from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with no road work during the peak traffic times for drop off and pick up of students at the school.
Motorists should expect occasional brief delays.
As a reminder, the speed limit is 15 mph near King Kaumualiʻi Elementary while school is in session.
The lane closures are necessary for improvements including new sidewalks, crosswalks and ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Safe walking routes for students, parents and pedestrians will be provided.
The project is scheduled to be completed in June. Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
