The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Niʻihau and Kauaʻi until 6 p.m.

A moderate, long-period north and a large, long-period northwest swell will combine to produce high surf along the north and west-facing shores of Niʻihau and Kauaʻi by this afternoon.

Surf is expected to peak between 15 to 20 feet along the north-facing shores. Along west-facing shores, surf is anticipated to peak between 12 to 16 feet.

Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break along the strong longshore and rip currents, which will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
