Fire Weather Watch Issued for Leeward Areas of Kauaʻi

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the leeward areas of Kaua‘i County that goes into effect Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.

Due to the lack of any significant rainfall through the summer months, fuels have become very dry across portions of the state, according to the National Weather Service. These dry conditions combined with breezy trade winds and relative humidities dipping below 45% can lead to critical fire conditions.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
