Lane Closures Scheduled for Kōloa Road, Maluhia Road
Multiple sections of Kōloa and Maluhia Roads are scheduled to be closed starting next week for various road work projects.
Work is set to begin June 28 to July 2. According to the Department of Public Works, multiple sections of Kōloa Road will be under short lane closures for shoulder grading. Closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect occasional brief delays.
Ala Kalanikaumaka will be fully closed from Kōloa Road to Lopaka Paipa Boulevard for underground utility installation. Motorists will be detoured to Lopaka Paipa Blvd. during this closure.
Beginning July 6, a 24-hour closure will be implemented to complete the makai half of the new Kōloa Road Roundabout. All southbound traffic heading into Kōloa Town will be detoured to Ala Kalanikaumaka and Lopaka Paipa Boulevard. Ala Kalanikaumaka will be closed at Lopaka Paipa Boulevard for northbound traffic. Motorists will be detoured to Lopaka Paipa Boulevard and Po‘ipū Road. Westbound traffic on Kōloa Road will be routed through the newly constructed mauka half of the Kōloa Road Roundabout, and the left turn onto Ala Kalanikaumaka will be permanently closed.
As a reminder, Ōma‘o Road is a narrow residential road that is not intended to be used as a detour route and not designed for high volumes of traffic or truck traffic. The speed limit is 25 mph for the entire length of Ōma‘o Road. Through trucks are prohibited on Ōma‘o Road for the duration of this project. Eastbound motorists from the West Side, Kalāheo, or Lāwa‘i are recommended to take Kaumuali‘i Highway to Maluhia Road to access Kōloa and Po‘ipū.
Construction of the Koloa Road Roundabout is currently projected to be complete by July 30, 2021. The current projected project final completion date is August 27, 2021.
