The Shops at Kukui‘ula recognize fall with family-friendly events

Celebrate the fall season with a series of free community events in October, including a pumpkin giveaway, an outdoor ‘Ohana Movie Night, and a Halloween Trunk or Treat.

Today, families are invited to kick off the fall season with a free pumpkin giveaway during The Shops at Kukui‘ula’s weekly Culinary Market, which is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m every Wednesday. One pumpkin per family will be available while supplies last.

Then, an outdoor screening of “Toy Story 5” will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23. Attendees are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the outdoor screening under the stars, weather permitting. Complimentary popcorn and s’mores will be available while supplies last.

The month concludes with Trunk or Treat with Kaua‘i Classic Cars Club and Earthworks Pacific at The Shops at Kukuiʻula from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. Kids can where their costumes as they trick-or-treat for candy and treats at the classic cars parked in the south parking lot.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit The Shops at Kukuiʻula website.

Grand Hyatt Kauaʻi to host canine costume contest to raise money for Kauaʻi Humane Society

The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is hosting a “Canine Costume Contest,” pet food drive and adoption pop-up event to benefit the Kauaʻi Humane Society.

The event aims to help the Kauaʻi Humane Society in its mission to foster respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals and enriching lives by nurturing healthy relationships between pets and people on Kauaʻi and beyond.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Kauaʻi Humane Society to bring some Halloween fun to our community while supporting the important and good work they do,” said Diann Hartman, director of marketing communications at Grand Hyatt Kauai. “This event is a wonderful way for guests, Kauaʻi residents, and their pets to come together, celebrate, and help provide care and comfort to animals in need.”

The “Canine Costume Contest” will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 on the resort’s front lawn, with registration beginning at 2:45 p.m. Participants will be able to compete in multiple categories including “Cutest Costume,” “Scariest Costume,” and “Best Pet and Owner Themed Costume.”

Winners will be determined in each category by a panel of judges with prizes for dogs from Natural Pet Hawaii and for people including a $100 resort gift certificate. All dogs must be healthy, fully vaccinated, well-mannered and leashed at all times.

The Kauaʻi Humane Society will have several dogs available for adoption at the event. They will also provide information on how resort guests and island residents can help to support the organization and find loving homes for shelter pets.

One of the humane society’s most successful programs is Kauaʻi Dogs on Field Trips where residents and visitors can take a dog out for a day, hiking, going to the beach or just relaxing. Both on and off island adoptions are available and more information can be found by visiting the Kauaʻi Humane Society website.

Costume contest participants are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food for Kauaʻi Humane Society’s pet food bank, which helps community members facing challenging times keep their pets healthy and happy. Items from the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist are also encouraged including scratching posts, toys, treats, leashes, industrial sized fans, kuranda beds, and airline approved animal crates.

People who are not able to attend the event but wish to support the organization can make a monetary donation on the Kauaʻi Humane Society website.
