Hawai‘i Department of Transportation notifies Kaua‘i residents about a closure of public parking at Port Allen Airport, near Salt Pond Beach, in effect through Oct. 11.
The closure is necessary to support Hurricane Lowell recovery work.

Orange barriers were placed Wednesday morning on Kuʻiloko Road, just after the Sky Dive Kaua‘i hangar, to prevent access to the public parking lot during recovery work by Kauaʻi County crews.
This will limit beachgoers in the area so crews can safely operate heavy machinery to move sand back toward Salt Pond for restructuring of the sand dunes that protect the ponds.
Sky Dive Kaua‘i will remain open.
County crews also placed barriers on Lokokai Road near Kālani Road to limit beach park access during the recovery work. Sand removal and replacement will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.
Salt makers Hui Hana Paʻakai o Hanapēpē will host a community workday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for all interested in assisting with redistributing sand to the dunes. Visit the Hui Hana Paʻakai o Hanapēpē website for additional details.
It is anticipated Port Allen Airport public parking lot will reopen Sunday, when work concludes.
