Kauaʻi County invites community members to a family-focused event this weekend in Līhuʻe aimed at giving keiki the skills they need to ride safely in their neighborhoods.
Play Streets Bicycle Playground is set for 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 in the Līhuʻe Civic Center parking lot, near the Kāpule Building.
The event features a child-sized roadway for practicing bicycle skills, learn-to-ride station and bicycle skills course. Bicycles and helmets will be provided, or participants can bring their own.
The miniature roadway includes intersections, a roundabout, signs and street markings, giving keiki a safe place to practice riding through a real road system. These skills help keep child bicyclists safer on the streets in their own neighborhoods.
All activities are free and open to the public.
Contact Keith Hatcher with Kauaʻi County Planning Department at 808-241-4880 or via email at khatcher@kauai.gov for additional information or with any questions.
Play Streets Kauaʻi is a community-based event that closes a road or public space for a short time to offer a safe and accessible play space so keiki and ʻohana can come together and get active!
Visit the Play Streets Kauaʻi website for additional information or to host you own Play Streets event.
