The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Kauaʻi that is in effect until 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
At 3:37 a.m., Kauaʻi law enforcement reported heavy rain over and upstream of the town of Hanalei. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour.
One lane of Kūhiō Highway near the Hanalei Bridge is currently closed due to rising floodwaters. For updates on road conditions and closures, please call 808-241-1725. Please do not call Kaua‘i police 911 unless you have an emergency.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Water is beginning to flow over the Hanalei Bridge and law enforcement is closing down the bridge.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Kapaʻa, Princeville, Kīlauea, Hanalei, North Fork Wailua Trails, Wainiha, Alakai Swamp Trails, Haʻena, Wailua Homesteads, Nā Pali
State Park, Moloaʻa and Kokeʻe State Park.
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
Earlier Wednesday morning a flood advisory was in place for most of Kauaʻi.
