A wind advisory is slated to take effect at 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday on the Garden Island and Ni‘ihau.

According to the National Weather Service, east winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Winds this strong can tear off shingles, knock down tree branches, blow away tents and awnings and make it difficult to steer, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles.

With these forecasted winds, coupled with dry conditions, Kaua‘i County officials are asking residents to exercise caution and take appropriate measures to prevent wildfires while residents, businesses and contractors continue cleanup and recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell.

“Residents, businesses and crews have made steady progress on recovery since Lowell, and we want that work to continue safely,” said Kauaʻi Emergency Management Agency Administrator Elton Ushio.
