Kauaʻi police responded to a traffic crash Tuesday morning involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on ʻElepaio Road.
A 2018 Toyota sport utility vehicle operated by a 62-year-old woman was traveling eastbound at about 7 a.m. Tuesday on ʻElepaio Road when it made a left turn onto Alae Road and collided with a westbound bicyclist.
The bicyclist, a 91-year-old man from Kekaha, was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Kauaʻi Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The intersection of ʻElepaio Road and Alae Road was closed for about 2 hours while officers with Kauaʻi Police Department Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors at this time.
