Newly formed Tropical Storm Odalys is expected to become a hurricane in the next day or so, according to the 2 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
Currently well east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands, environmental conditions appear conducive for some development of this system by the middle to latter portion of this week as it moves westward to west-southwestward, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Odalys is currently 1,345 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph moving at 10 mph.
Continued gradual strengthening is expected during the next 48 hours, and Odalys is forecast to become a hurricane by Monday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.
A tropical depression could form south or southeast of the Hawaiian Islands once conditions become more favorable.
The formation chance of a new depression through the next 48 hours remains low at 0%, while formation chance over the next seven days increases to about 60%.
