Kauaʻi County Division of Motor Vehicles reminds island residents that there are vehicle registration renewal options while in-person services continue to be closed following a recent fire at the Kāpule Building in Līhuʻe that destroyed county and division infrastructure.
The public also is reminded that the division’s satellite office at Kapaʻa Armory is open for inquiries only. Staff are available to answer Division of Motor Vehicles-related questions. Residents can now call 808-241-1949.
Vehicle registrations can be renewed at community-based kiosks, online or at county drop boxes.

Community-based kiosks
Self-service kiosks are available at these locations:
- Western Motors, 3680 Kaumualiʻi Highway, Hanapēpē.
- Safeway, 4454 Nuhou St., Līhuʻe.
- Safeway, 4-831 Kūhiō Highway, Kapaʻa.
- Foodland, 5-4280 Kūhiō Highway, Princeville.
Scan the barcode on your registration renewal notice or enter your vehicle license plate number to renew. Kiosks accept all major credit and debit cards and print your registration card and emblem as soon as payment is confirmed.
Follow on-screen instructions if you experience an error.
Registrations up to 10 months expired can be renewed at any community-based kiosk with a valid temporary safety check.
Online
Vehicle registrations can be renewed online. Follow the online instructions to complete the renewal.
Registration cards and emblems will be mailed in about 7 to 10 business days.
Drop boxes
Kauaʻi County drop boxes are available at these locations:
- Moʻikeha Building, ground floor, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Piʻikoi Building, fronting Rice Street.
In-person help
Staff are on site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Līhuʻe Civic Center to answer Division of Motor Vehicles-related questions.
Look for signs directing you to the mobile Division of Motor Vehicles trailer in the parking lot.
