Staff at the County of Kauaʻi Division of Motor Vehicles satellite office at the Kapaʻa Armory are available to answer DMV-related questions.
Residents may renew vehicle registrations at community-based kiosks, online, or through County drop boxes.
A fire at the Līhu‘e Civic Center’s Kapule Building on Sept. 10, which houses several county services, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, has forced its closure.

Self-service kiosks are available at the following locations:
- Western Motors, 3680 Kaumualiʻi Highway in Hanapēpē
- Safeway, 4454 Nuhou St. in Līhuʻe
- Safeway, 4-831 Kūhiō Highway in Kapaʻa
- Foodland, 5-4280 Kūhiō Highway in Princeville
To renew, scan the barcode on your registration renewal notice or enter your vehicle license plate number. Kiosks accept all major credit and debit cards and print your registration card and emblem as soon as payment is confirmed. If you experience an error, follow the on-screen instructions.
Registrations up to 10 months expired may be renewed at any community-based kiosk with a valid temporary safety check.
Vehicle registrations may be renewed online at https://mvr.ehawaii.gov/renewals/kauai/lookup. Follow the online instructions to complete the renewal. Registration cards and emblems will be mailed in approximately seven to 10 business days.
County of Kauaʻi drop boxes are available at the following locations:
- Moʻikeha Building, ground floor, Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Piʻikoi Building, fronting Rice Street
- In-person help in Līhuʻe
DMV staff are on site at the Līhuʻe Civic Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer DMV-related questions. Look for signs directing you to the DMV mobile trailer in the Civic Center parking lot.
