Shipping firm Young Brothers, with U.S. Coast Guard and relevant state agencies, continues to assess impacts from Hurricane Lowell.
Port closures, severe ocean conditions and storm-related impacts could cause delays to departure and/or arrival times for the rest of this week.
The shipping company, in coordination with state agencies, is prioritizing storm relief cargo for ongoing recovery efforts.
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation Harbors Division and U.S. Coast Guard are assessing ports and harbors, which will be reopened when safe.
Nāwiliwili on Kaua’i and Kaumalapau, Lānaʻi, are closed until they are cleared for safe for operation. Hilo and Kawaihae on the Big Island as well as Kahului, Maui, and Kaunakakai on Molokaʻi are open for normal operations.

Honolulu to Nāwiliwili
RESCHEDULED to Sept. 8
- Port of Nāwiliwili sustained damage in Lowell’s aftermath and will remain closed until state Harbors Division clears it to reopen.
- Barge is scheduled to depart Sept. 8 and estimated to arrive Sept. 9, pending port reopening, harbor status and ocean conditions.
Honolulu to Kawaihae sailing
DELAYED Sept. 7
- Barge arrived as scheduled Tuesday morning in Kawaihae, but large swells made it unsafe to enter the harbor as the channel experiences close-out conditions. The barge will remain offshore until conditions improve and it is safe to attempt entry.
- Port operating normal gate hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday, with no modifications to cargo acceptance or availability.
Honolulu to Kaunakakai/Kaumalapau combo sailing
CANCELED Sept. 8
- Barge will depart Honolulu and sail directly to Kaunakakai, arriving Wednesday as regularly scheduled. There are no changes to gate hours or cargo acceptance and availability.
- Kaumalapau sustained damage from the storm and is closed and will not accept any cargo until further notice.
