Kaua‘i County Division of Motor Vehicles, Real Property offices to close for training
Kaua‘i County announces its Division of Motor Vehicles and Real Property Division will be closed Sept. 2 for staff training. Regular hours will resume Sept. 3. Visit the Division of Motor Vehicles website for additional information, to book an appointment or with any questions.
Real Property exemption applications can be deposited in the drop box outside Kapule Building at the Līhu‘e Civic Center during the closure of the Real Property Assessment and Collections Section. Payments also can be made online or at the drop box during the closure. Make checks payable to the director of Finance.

Next Goodwill Hawai‘i reuse collection event is Sept. 11
The next Goodwill Hawai’i reuse collection event is planned for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11 at Kaua‘i Resource Center, located at 3460 ʻAhukini Road, in Līhu‘e. Residents, businesses and other organizations can bring unwanted or unneeded items for reuse, including clothing, small furniture, kitchen items, children’s toys, books and shoes.
Clothing and textiles do not need to be in good condition; torn or stained clothing is OK. Do not bring eWaste, chemicals, medical equipment, appliances, food items, baby items (other than clothing) or broken items.
The Solid Waste Division encourages the public to check with local thrift stores to see if they can accept donations before bringing items to the Resource Center. Goodwill requests that the public remain in their vehicles while on-site for everyone’s safety. Kauaʻi Elder Law Fair returns this week; everyone invited to attend
Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi and partner Kauaʻi Agency on Elderly Affairs invite the community to the Kauaʻi Elder Law Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 4 at Kauaʻi War Memorial Convention Hall, located at 4191 Hardy St., in Līhuʻe. The event is open to the public and will provide practical information and community resources for kūpuna and their families.
The fair will feature presentations about elder abuse, scams and estate planning along with resource tables from local social service agencies. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and admission is free. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture to host pop-up exhibits at Kukui Grove Center
Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture and Kukui Grove Center invite the community to experience “Kaulele,” the nonprofit’s Hawaiian culture and science pop-up exhibits. Community members are welcome to enjoy “Kaulana Mahina” and “The Explorers,” two science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, learning opportunities connecting modern and traditional science through indigenous Hawaiian knowledge.
Those who attend will be treated to an immersive journey to learn about the Hawaiian mahina (moon) phases and fishing practices. They will discover how the moon phases affect environmental activities such as fishing and planting while exploring seven interactive zones featuring ocean-based fishing activities.

Get your tickets now for Home In The Islands festival
Anaina Hou Community Park and Henry Kapono Foundation proudly present Home in the Islands Kauaʻi, a celebration of Hawaiʻi’s music, culture and community from Oct. 8-10 at Porter Pavilion inside Anaina Hou Community Park in Kīlauea.
The weekend begins with “From Song to Stage,” a free master class for emerging musicians covering songwriting, performance and the business of music, ending with an Open Mic Contest and chance to earn an opening spot at Saturday’s concert. Friday brings “Aloha Unplugged,” an intimate gala dinner featuring acoustic performances and the stories behind the songs. The celebration culminates with “Henry Kapono & Friends: Goodtimes Together.”
