Kauaʻi mountain bikers are preparing for high-speed rides as the Anahola Max Enduro returns on Sept. 12, offering five timed downhill courses and many chances to get muddy.
Organized by Mountain Biking Kaua’i, the 2026 event is expected to be one of the club’s biggest days of the year.
Racers will test themselves against the clock on the Anahola trails, while spectators can cheer from designated viewing areas and watch riders put their skills — and brakes — to the test.
Registration includes lunch and remains open for those still hoping to take a run at the course. The event is still seeking volunteers to help keep the races running smoothly.
Because each of the five runs requires timing support, Mountain Biking Kaua’i is looking for volunteers to operate the event’s timing system, help guide spectators to safe viewing areas, and lend a hand with other race-day duties.
There also is a need for volunteers in the days leading up to race day.
Mountain Biking Kaua’i has scheduled trail-dig days every Saturday leading up to the event, giving members and supporters a chance to help prepare the course and connect with fellow members.
Sponsorship opportunities also are still open, giving local businesses and community supporters the chance to support the event.
In January, the new nonprofit revived the Anahola trail system, enabling organized off-road cycling and competitive racing on the island’s East Side.
Now, Mountain Biking Kaua’i has 163 members, a milestone that reflects the island’s growing popularity for two wheels.

Because of the inherent risks of mountain bike racing, participants must wear a proper helmet and equipment suited to off-road trails. Any participant who does not meet those requirements is prohibited from racing. A medical tent with a nurse volunteer also will be present at the event, Lowery said.
