Fisherman rescued from tide pool near Kahili Point in Kīlauea
Kauaʻi Fire Department personnel crossed a river and walked along a shoreline with medical equipment and a rescue basket to help the distressed fisherman.

Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department on Saturday rescued a fisherman from a tide pool near Kahili Point in Kīlauea.
The incident was reported shortly before 3:40 p.m. when bystanders discovered the fisherman near crashing waves.
Crews with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident. First responders located the fisherman approximately three-quarters of a mile from the parking lot.
Fire personnel brought medical equipment and a rescue basket with a backboard across the beach, crossed the river and proceeded along the shoreline to reach the patient.
Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 landed on an open grassy area near the top of the point and conducted a short-haul operation.
The fisherman was secured in a stokes litter and short-hauled to Wailapa Road, where American Medical Response personnel were waiting. The person was transferred to EMS for further medical care.
