The County of Kaua‘i held a blessing Friday to mark the near completion of a $1.1 million Hanapēpē Baseyard renovation project, which will provide improved workspaces and enhanced safety and security for the Roads Division staff of the Department of Public Works.
The baseyard serves as a critical hub for county field operations on the South and West sides of Kaua‘i, supporting essential services such as road maintenance, park upkeep and levee work. The facility plays an important role in helping county crews maintain public infrastructure and respond to emergencies.

“Taking care of our county employees means making sure they have the facilities and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami said in a news release. “These improvements are an investment in the people who provide these essential services.”
Improvements include replacing flooring throughout the offices; upgrading bathroom and locker room fixtures; repainting interior and exterior spaces; replacing picture windows; repairing exterior walls; reconfiguring existing spaces to better support operational needs; and adding a second entrance.
Additional safety and security improvements include separating locker room and bathroom areas and installing a new perimeter fence around the baseyard and transfer station to better protect equipment and infrastructure.

The project was done by Pacific Blue Construction. The blessing was led by Kahu Sean Chun, with County officials, staff and project partners.
