In the aftermath of Hurricane Lowell, North Shore Give will host a free community event Sunday, Oct. 18, bringing live music, family activities and disaster recovery assistance to Kauaʻi’s North Shore.

ʻOhana Relief Fest will take place at Anaina Hou Porter Pavilion in Kīlauea, with gates opening at 10 a.m. The event replaces the organization’s annual ʻOhana FitFest, which traditionally features a 5K run and a 10K run.

“Rather than canceling the gathering because of extensive storm damage, we are shifting the focus to community support and recovery,” said Maylette Garces, executive director of North Shore Give, “

Extensive storm damage made the Wai Koa Trail unusable for the running races. The new event will feature three local bands, lawn games and prize drawings.

Representatives from participating organizations will also share information about recovery grants, U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans, and other assistance available to residents and small businesses affected by the storm.

Proceeds from the event will support North Shore schools and North Shore Strong, an expanded disaster preparedness and recovery initiative led by North Shore Give.
