Update at 9:28 p.m. Oct. 7, 2026: A flood advisory in effect for Kaua’i is now extended until 12:45 a.m. Oct. 8 as additional bands of heavy rainfall are possible during the next several hours.
The heaviest rain has been falling over south and west portions of the island, with rates of a half-inch to 1 inch an hour continuing. Minor flooding is ongoing.
National Weather Service forecasters report some locations that will experience flooding include Līhuʻe, Kapaʻa, Kalāheo, Kekaha, Lāwaʻi, ʻŌmaʻo, Kōkeʻe State Park and Poʻipū.
Post originally published at 7:39 p.m. Oct. 7, 2026: A flood advisory is in effect until 9:45 p.m. for Kaua‘i. National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu report flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected while the advisory is in place.
Doppler radar indicated heavy rain falling at 6:37 p.m. over Kaua‘i.
Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, as rainfall of half-inch to 1.5 inches per hour — with isolated rates of up to 2 inches an hour — was seen along the southern coast of the island from Poʻipū to Waimea.
Flooding is likely on roadways and in poor drainage areas and streams.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
A flood watch also remains in effect for Kaua‘i County through Thursday afternoon.
