Kauaʻi County Housing Agency because of impacts from Hurricane Lowell extended the application period for the Residential Cesspool Conversion Grant Program 2.
Applications are now due by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23. The original deadline was Oct. 6.
The program provides selected, qualified homeowners with up to $20,000 in reimbursement for converting existing cesspools to individual wastewater systems approved by Hawaiʻi Department of Health Wastewater Branch.
Funding is provided through the state Health Department Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund. With a total allocation of $1 million, the program can support 50 homeowners.
The online application and program details, including priority criteria, are available at the county website.
Applications will be evaluated according to county ordinance. Residents can apply whether they meet all, some or none of these priorities.
Submitting a complete application as early as possible will influence an applicant’s priority for available funding.
Applicants previously placed on the waitlist for Program 1 must reapply for Program 2.
Cesspools already converted with an approval-to-Use date prior to May 1 are not eligible for reimbursement under this program.
Residents are encouraged to apply online to expedite the upload of required supporting documentation.
Hard copies of the application are also available during business hours at the Housing Agency office, located at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330, in Līhuʻe.
