The National Weather Service has extended the high surf advisory for the south-facing shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A south-southwest swell generated by Hurricane Nolo is producing advisory-level surf, with waves forecast at 7 to 12 feet on Tuesday.
This swell is expected to diminish by Wednesday as the direction comes increasingly from the west, but uncertainty remains with how quickly this will occur, the National Weather Service said in the advisory.
Beachgoers should remain cautious as elevated surf and strong currents can create hazardous conditions, particularly near shorelines and reef areas.
