Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative and its contractor Premium Construction, along with crews from Hawaiian Electric Company, restored most members in Princeville and some members in Hanalei Tuesday at around 11 p.m.
Roughly 3,200 members were re-energized during that operation. Islandwide restoration after Hurricane Lowell is now at 91%.
Crews on Wednesday will be working on bringing additional customers online in Hanalei, Kīlauea and other areas between Moloa‘a and Hanalei, according to a news release from KIUC. It is expected that more customers will be restored throughout the day and into the evening in these areas; however, the cooperative could not provide information on specific areas or timeframes at this time.
Personnel will also continue work on necessary repairs to transmission infrastructure that feeds Wainiha and Hā‘ena. Helicopter assistance will be required and may be observed in the area today. The earliest estimated restoration for Wainiha and Hā‘ena is the end of next week.
KIUC, its contractors, and mutual aid partners will also continue to address some small outages remaining in areas between Anahola and Kekaha.
Roughly 3,100 members are still without power in the following areas:
- Moloa‘a to Hanalei: 2,000 members
- Wainiha and Hā‘ena: 500 members
- Kōke‘e: 100 members
- Scattered pockets Anahola to Kekaha: 500
