Labor Day night on Kauaʻi was scary for many people, as Category 2 Hurricane Lowell howled with high winds, while also bringing heavy rain, damaging surf and storm surge.
When morning broke, community members, National Guard teams and utility, county and state worker all began the task of recovery for the small, remote Hawaiian Island.
For starters, roads and to be cleared of fallen trees, downed power lines, boulders and other debris before most other recovery could start.
Kauaʻi Now reporter Xiomara Yamileth traveled the North Shore as best she could to see the damage and the work of recovery. We also have some photos from other people around the island.
