The high surf warning for south-facing shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau has been extended through 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
A building south swell from Hurricane Lowell will bring damaging surf to portions of Kaua’i.
Surf heights along south-facing are projected to reach 7 to 10 feet Monday morning, rapidly building to 20 to 30 feet Monday afternoon and evening.
Expect ocean water surging and sweeping over beaches, coastal areas and roadways, creating the potential for significant damage.
The National Weather Service has also issued a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Kaua’i.
Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak and dangerous currents will make entering the water very hazardous.
Members of the public should heed all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
The swells generated by Lowell are expected to drop off quickly Tuesday.
