It’s that time again to lace up and rally the family, because ʻOhana FitFest is back for its 13th anniversary, bringing a weekend of fitness, music, food and costumes, and giving the spirit of Halloween a head start on the North Shore of Kauaʻi.

North Shore Give has opened registration for the annual ʻOhana FitFest 10K Trail Run and 5K Obstacle Run/Walk, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18, at Anaina Hou Community Park and the Wai Koa Trail in Kilauea.

Those thinking about signing up have a little extra incentive to act soon by taking advantage of the early-bird pricing, which ends Aug. 31, with registration fees increasing Sept. 1.

For years, ʻOhana FitFest has billed itself as a joyful celebration of community, and the event is designed to welcome participants of all ages and fitness levels. The courses combine an athletic challenge with a festive atmosphere, featuring start and finish lines and a community fair at Anaina Hou Community Park.

North Shore Give vice president Ken Rosenthal told Kauaʻi Now that this year’s ʻOhana FitFest has “something for everyone.”

“Whether you want to challenge yourself on the 10K Trail Run, tackle the 5K obstacles with your family and friends, or simply walk the scenic Wai Koa Trail and enjoy the fun,” said Rosenthal, who also is the event’s director. “It’s a great day to get outside, knowing that your registration also gives back to our North Shore schools.”

Grants from this year’s event will be donated to North Shore elementary schools and Namahana School.

Registered runners and walkers will also receive a free ‘Ohana FitFest hat (choice of trucker hat or runner’s cap, while supplies last) and a breakfast burrito on Sunday.

Participants can connect their individual registrations to a team and compete for prizes across multiple categories, such as largest team, fastest team, and team with the most spirit. This year, the new category is Costume.

Since its inception, ‘Ohana FitFest has donated more than $160,000 to support local health programs. Proceeds from this year’s event will provide grants to North Shore elementary schools and Namahana School.

North Shore Give organizers are also seeking volunteers and sponsors to help make the 2026 event a success. Residents interested in volunteering can contact Maylette Garces at maylette@northshoregive.org or 808-720-1645.
