UPDATE: Kauaʻi fire crews have Wainiha brush fire under control

Updated 7:38 p.m. Aug. 20: Kauaiʻi Fire Department crews have a brush fire under control in Wainiha. Firefighters will remain on scene to continue mop up and perform overnight fire watch to monitor the area in the vicinity of ‘Ananalu Road.

Story originally posted earlier Aug. 20 ,2026: Kaua‘i Fire Department responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20 to a brush fire in the vicinity of ‘Ananalu Road in Wainiha.

Firefighters established a good barrier between the fire and nearby structures. There were no reports of damage to nearby structures or injuries. 

Personnel with the Hanalei, Kaiākea, Kapaʻa and Līhuʻe fire stations as well as Tender 3, Engine 2, Air 1,  Air 2, Air 3 and Kaua‘i Police Department responded.

Kūhiō Highway is closed in the vicinity of ‘Ananalu Road because of the fire. Kaua‘i Police Department is providing traffic control.
