State reminds consumers to review insurance policies before storm’s arrival
Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Insurance Division encourages residents to take steps now — before the arrival of what is forecast to become Hurricane Lala — to make filing insurance claims easier after damage from any heavy rainfall and flooding occurs.

Keep copies of property, flood and auto insurance policies in a waterproof folder or securely stored digitally so they’re easy to access if a claim needs to be filed.
Create an inventory by taking photos or videos, including furniture, appliances and valuables; save receipts for high-value items.
Consumers also should know that most standard homeowners, condominium unit and renters insurance policies do not cover flood damage.
Flood insurance is available separately through the National Flood Insurance Program, which generally requires a 30-day waiting period before coverage takes effect.
