ALTRES Back-to-School Drive supports teachers and students on Kauaʻi’s North Shore
In a heartwarming show of support for education, ALTRES employees have donated over $20,000 and fulfilled classroom supply wish lists for Nāmahana School on Kauaʻi.

ALTRES employees are helping teachers on Kauaʻi prepare for the new school year by fulfilling classroom supply wish lists and providing more than $20,000 in monetary donations to two schools.
The company’s annual Back-to-School Drive supported Namahana School on Kauaʻiʻs North Shore this year, with employees purchasing items requested directly by teachers at the school.
“We know that teachers go above and beyond for their students, including purchasing classroom supplies with their own money,” said Siana Hunt, ALTRES director of corporate philanthropy.
The supplies ranged from basic classroom necessities to furniture and learning materials, including school chairs, rolling office chairs, shelves, chapter books, binders, reading lights, rugs, pencils, crayons, bulletin board borders, brooms, disinfecting wipes, art drying racks and storage containers.
The donations were delivered throughout July, with additional items expected to arrive as students settle into their classrooms for the new school year.
Hunt added: “Supporting their Wish Lists was one way we could give back and provide them with the resources to create engaging learning environments where students can thrive.”
The drive is organized each summer by ALTRES employees across the islands as a way to support Hawaiʻi students and educators. This year’s effort focused on fulfilling specific requests from teachers rather than providing a general collection of school supplies.
Kapua Chandler, Ph.D., Namahana School leader, said the donations help ease the financial burden on families while putting additional resources in students’ hands.
“Every pencil, notebook, and folder donated through this drive takes one more worry off our families’ shoulders and puts one more resource into our students’ hands,” Chandler said.
“On behalf of our entire school community, mahalo to ALTRES for investing in our ʻopio (youth) and the educators who serve them.”
In addition to fulfilling the classroom wish lists, ALTRES also presented each school with a monetary donation of more than $10,000.
