With food insecurity affecting approximately 463,000 individuals across the state, and thousands more on the verge, Hawaiʻi Foodbank is hosting the annual Food Drive Day at the end of the month.
Food Drive Day is a critical time for raising funds, educating the public on the organization’s programs and services, engaging community and reminding people that Hawaiʻi Foodbank is for everyone who needs assistance.
“Community support is essential to helping Hawaiʻi Foodbank meet the growing need for food assistance across our islands,” said Hawaiʻi Foodbank President and CEO Amy Miller. “We want people to know that if they need help putting food on the table, we are here for them—without judgment and regardless of their circumstances.”
From Aug. 22 through 29, Hawaiʻi Foodbank will be accepting donations in Kauaʻi at the following locations:
- Big Save Eleʻele
- Big Save Kōloa
- Big Save Waimea
- Safeway Līhuʻe
- Safeway Kapaʻa
- Walmart Līhuʻe
“Food insecurity can affect anyone, often when they least expect it. With so many Hawaiʻi residents living paycheck to paycheck, an unexpected car repair, medical expense, or loss of income can leave a family struggling to afford food,” Miller added. “Hawaiʻi Foodbank is here to ensure everyone in our community has access to the food they need to thrive. The generosity of our community through Food Drive Day helps make that possible.”
