Kauaʻi County Department of Water announces an upcoming overnight water service shutdown for Kapaʻa Homesteads Water System improvements.
The shutdown will impact Kapaʻa Homesteads and greater Kapaʻa area from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 5-6, weather permitting.
Some of the affected areas will include:
- All branching roads off and including Kawaihau Road.
- All branching roads off and including Kapahi Road, Kaehulua Road, Laipo Road, Apopo Road, Hauaala Road and Mailihuna Road.

Two water buffaloes will be located in the Aloha Island Mart parking lot, located at 5665 Kawaihau Road, to provide potable drinking water. Customers must bring their own containers.
The water service shutdown is necessary to install six connections of newly installed waterline infrastructure associated with the Kapaʻa Homesteads two half-million-gallon tank project.
Work will occur near the intersection of Kawaihau Road and Kapahi Road.
Motorists should anticipate one-lane alternating traffic in the work zone area. Message boards and warning signs will be installed, as well as traffic control personnel at the work site to safely direct vehicles through the area.
Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare by taking the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs.
- Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors.
- Ensure water heaters do not empty.
- Avoid using appliances that require water during the test shutdown.
