Hiker visiting from Washington State suffers apparent ankle injury on Kaua‘i trail

A visitor from Washington State was rescued off a popular Kaua‘i trail after suffering an apparent ankle injury.

Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the incident on Kalalau Trail shortly before 11:45 a.m. on Sunday. First responders arrived on scene at the mile marker 1.5 landing zone and discovered the 40-year-old woman, according to a news release from Kaua‘i County.

Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene, provided first aid, and loaded her into Air 1, where she was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment.

American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly before 12:40 p.m.
